03 Apr Mod Black & White Dinner Party
I’m normally team color > neutrals, but I’ll admit black and white can be very chic and timeless. I set this table for a mod black and white dinner party at my apartment.
The inspiration for this look was a few cool pieces I found at Hobby Lobby, including the textured black and gold vase and the black candlestick holders. (I purchased these items in store recently, but they don’t seem to be available online. Some similar options are linked below.) The vase is a total statement-making piece, and the mouth is narrow so it looks gorgeous and full with just a few flowers.
I kept the rest of the look really simple with basic white plates, plain black cloth napkins and my favorite Villeroy & Boch crystal water goblets. For flowers, I picked up a dozen white roses from the grocery store. I put most of them in the black centerpiece vase and added a few stems to small white bud vases as accents on each side. These roses were gorgeous and ended up lasting over a week, which was a major win.
Since I’m now the owner of hundreds of battery-powered taper candles from my wedding, I had to put them to good use. While I prefer real candles, these flicker and look pretty darn good from a distance.
For casual dinners, I don’t like to use a tablecloth because it feels too fancy and stuffy. I set everything directly on my marble tabletop for a sleek, modern feel.
This was such an easy table to set, but it still felt special and elevated. This is a look I’ll definitely go back to again since it works for any season and many occasions. I guess I’m starting to come around to the neutral home trend!
What do you think of this set-up? And do you prefer color or neutrals like black and white in your home decor and tablescapes?
